iMovie past present future

I've used iMovie since the first version. I sometimes go years before revisiting the video editing software, but one thing is for certain, each version becomes increasingly different from the previous. This helps blend it with Final Cut Pro, but I miss the ease of use from the original. But all the iLife, or just all Apple software even AppleWorks years ago. I like some of the new features once I got used to them. But it is still cumbersome to create a movie from either a dv camera or from video files...import..wait....move from "event" to the actual project...which you cant seem to ever "save" and then getting an idvd to work, without matching themes, you must create a few coasters, i hate discs, and switch from PAL to NTSC, by bootleg must have been from Europe, and finalize the kids video right before the in-laws arrive on Mother's day!
